Pride: Winnipeg, Manitoba

I took my Mom to her very first Pride event ever. We are from PEI and Pride isn’t a huge thing there. She loved it- she talked about how happy and celebratory it is. Which is one of the best parts of Pride! a huge colourful parade with people wearing what excites them, listening to performances, and soaking it all in.

I saw a sign carried in the parade that read “The First Pride Was a Riot”. Pride is a day to remember the work to overcome oppression based on gender identity and sexuality. Before parades there were raids. The LGBTQQIAAP community and their allies rioted against being arrested for expressing their gender and sexuality.
